Irish agency Boys + Girls wanted to make an international impact by creating momentum and building awareness for International Women’s Day 2019.

Their idea was a simple three-finger W salute to women - inspired by the two-finger symbol for peace reimagined for a 21st Century cause. So they invited designers and illustrators from all over to submit their work accompanied by the hashtag #SaluteWomen.

I wanted to create something that had more of a concept to it, rather than strictly an aesthetically designed W salute. I’d love to think that my idea could actually become a special emoji for International Women’s Day in the future - keeping the W salute alive.
